This isn't a homework question I am simply wondering.

When I was measuring the volume for some plastics in my Chemistry lab, most of the plastics float. I put a coin over them to make them sink and subtracted the volume of the coin at the end.

However, is there any way to make the plastics sink without putting something denser than water on top?
