Difference between chair confirmations
« on: February 11, 2011, 09:45:07 AM »
Q:  Use the table below to calculate the difference between the chair confirmation of cis-1-tert-butyl-4-methylcyclohexane.

Compound                                  :delta:G                                K

methylcyclohexane                       1.74                                   19.5

ethylcyclohexane                         1.79                                    21.2

propylcyclohexane                        2.21                                   43.4

isopropylcyclohexane                    2.61                                   86.0

tert-butylcyclohexane                  5.50                                    11,916

----------------

Do I simply add a tert-butyl and 4 methylcyclohexane values from above?
5.50 + (4x1.74) to get 12.46 kJ/mol

OH MY WORD, I am so lost, please can anyone help me?  I have a midterm next week and I am desperately trying to understand.

Thank you
