Calculating ph using quadatric expression/approximation
« on: February 27, 2011, 10:00:38 AM »
Calculate the pH of the following solutions both, using the quadtratic expression AND the approximation. Determine the error that using the approximation will give on the pH measurement for EACH of the solutions.

1) .1 mM of cyanoaceitc acid (HNCCH2CO2)(Ka= 3.37*10^-3)
HNCCH2CO2 equil H+ + NCCH2CO2

2.) 0.00001 M of acetic acid (HCH3CO2)(Ka-1.75*10^-5)

HCH3CO2 equil H+ + CH3CO2

confuzzled, helpp! thanks!
