Review HW SALTS IN SOLUTION
« on: April 01, 2011, 09:41:49 AM »
1. A buffer solution is prepared by mixing together equal quantities of formic acid,
HCHO2, and sodium format, NaCHO2. Write equations that show what happens
when first acid, and then base, is added to this buffer solution.

-HCHO2+ NaCHO2--->HCHO2+ NaCHO2

2. Complete the following rules.
a. strong acid +strong base---> Neutral solution
c. weak acid +strong base--->Basic solution
b. strong acid +weak base---> Acidic solution

I have a strong feeling that number one is completely wrong.

The buffer solution is HCOOH / HCOO-

So what hapens if you add Acid. How is a acidic solution given. The same for the baic solution.
