I was looking up the structure online but there's an R group that is in the middle of a bond on benezne. This makes no sense how is it that there's a bond that ends in the middle of nowhere?

This is meant to indicate that the R substituent can be at any of the available places on the ring
Development Chemists do it on Scale, Research Chemists just do it!

As I said this indicates that the R substituent can be at the ortho, meta or para position to the dialkylamine moiety.
Development Chemists do it on Scale, Research Chemists just do it!
