I was wondering how would you increase conjugation of Dibenzalacetone to increase it's UV characteristics thereby increasing its Sunscreen role

Increasing conjugation is as simple as adding more alternating single and double bonds.

However, remember your particle in a box: increasing conjugation redshifts absorption. If it gets too long it will begin absorbing in the visual range, which wouldn't make a very good sunscreen, would it?

What other physical parameter would it be advantageous to modify to make a better sunscreen? Hint: think Beer's Law...

If you were using a sunscreen, would you want one with a longer absorption wavelength, or a higher molar absorptivity?

The increase in conjugation makes it easier for electrons to jump to a higher energy level hence longer wavelength of light to be absorbed and transmitted

Thanks
