Hi.
I'm a beginner in Chemistry and I'm a little stuck on a couple of questions I got for homework.
My first question is: Why does a luminous flame leave a deposit on a beaker? What does the deposit consist of?
I don't think I'm right, but what I got was that when methane gas (the fuel used) is mixed with oxygen, oxidation occurs and thus leaves carbon as the deposit.
My second question involves something called a wing top. I tried looking for information on it, but I honestly couldn't find anything. I'm asked what the function of the wing top is.
My last question is: Why doesn't a beaker or flask soften and melt in the bunsen burner flame?
I'm guessing it's because of the composition of the beaker/flask and that it may be fire-proof.
Thank you for any help I may get on this.
