Reaction between KMnO4 and H2O2
« on: June 24, 2011, 05:05:56 AM »
i) O2 +2H+ +2e- ----->H2O2 +0.68V
ii) MnO4- + 4H+ +3e- -----> MnO2 +1.67V
iii) MnO4- + 8H+ +5e- -----> Mn2+ + 4H2O +1.52V
H2O2 will react with ii) or iii) first?

Most likely answer depends on the pH.

exactly, borek. imsushi92, the standard reduction potentials your give are for activities of 1 for all reactants involved. Depending of the abundance of H+, the real potential of that reaction will differ from the standard (see nernst equation)
