Structure Drawing From Name
« on: June 02, 2018, 11:11:37 AM »
Hello!

I am trying to draw 4-ethylnonan-3-ol.
The key and my drawing are different but may be interpreted the same. I was wondering if my drawing was a bad representation and why.
My thought process:
- start with parent: non. Draw jagged 9.
-'an' so no double bonds.
-there's an alcohol on the third carbon and an ethyl group on the fourth carbon.

Are bond angles significant here for this type of drawing?

Your compound is just drawn at different angle. It is common that same molecules look different because they are drawn in different way even though all the procedures are followed and correct
