hello,

i'm having a problem on how to apply the gas laws in determining the original composition of mixture of hydrogen and oxygen gas where in they are analyzed by passing over the hot copper oxide and through a
drying tube. Hydrogen reduces the CuO according to the equation CuO + H2 −→ Cu + H2O Oxygen
then reoxidizes the copper formed : Cu + 1/2O2 −→ CuO 100.0 cm3 of the mixture measured at 25°C
and 750 Torr yields 84.5 cm3 of dry oxygen measured at 25 ◦C and 750 Torr after passage over CuO
and the drying agent.

any ideas?

Try to write OVERALL reaction equation. If some substance is present on both sides of the equation, it simply cancels out.

do you mean hess's law. then what could be the application of gas law with that. can we apply the dalton's law?how then?

can you use Avogadro's rule in this ? , Dalton law would be possible by maybe just replacing volume with partial pressures. anyway without special container or measuring device you still need molar amounts to determine those.

chemical potential for mixture and oxygen, would it make possible to use both Hess law ( drought Gibbs ) and Dalton law in this ;?
