Q: do we use detector in GC when it is coupled with MS , I mean what is the detector in GC-MS?

I believe the MS is the detector, it uses the ion count of all the fragments for the gas chromatograph.

Yes, the mass spectrometer is the detector in a typical GC-MS unit. 

It is possible to split the flows at the end of the column between the mass spec and another detector or to have two completely independant columns with separate inlets, one column going to the mass spec and the other to a different detector type.

To be a GC-MS, though, at least one detector needs to be a mass spectrometer.
