Help with dimensional analysis using the map and "railroad tracks"

I need some help with chemistry. The problem is "convert 1156 pg into nanograms." The key that I have is this, when the number is in parenthesis it means its an exponent:
pico 1x10(-12)
nano 1x10(-9)
and then the base unit is a gram
My teacher uses a method which he calls "the map and railroad" and the most important part to him is that we have the railroad tracks correctly. Can someone help me with this?

you can use this method
1g = 10^-12pg
and 1 g = 10^-9ng
now start with what is given to you
1156pg --> convert to g------> convert to pg
1156pg X 1g/10^-12pg   X 10^-9ng/ 1g

I hope this method matches with your teacher's map and rail road method.
