electrode potentials
« on: September 14, 2011, 02:21:09 AM »
I have a few queries :
1. What is the potential of hydrogen electrode in contact with a solution whose pH is 10?
I tried to use the  formula related to gibbs energy and equilibrium constant but got struk there.

2. Is the reaction between Br2 and Fe+2 feasible ?
Standard electrode potential : EBr2/Br- = 1.09 and EFe2+/Fe = -0.44.
Thus Br2 in this case is a better oxidising agent and
Br2 + Fe+2  :rarrow:  2Br-  +  Fe , this reaction isn't feasible.
Am I right ?

1 - just use Nernst equation, simple plug and chug.

2 - Fe/Fe2+ is not the only Fe2+ reaction.
