Confused about the derivative of the mole fraction

Can someone explain to me why dNi/N is not equal to dXi when Ni/N=Xi? Does it have to do with the partial pressures? Could someone show by a simple example why this is not true. I could not find an explanation in the book or online that I could understand. Thank you.

The relationship is valid if and only if N = constant. For chemical reaction N = may vary according to the chemical equation.
