Recrystallization . polarity? Please *delete me*
« on: September 21, 2011, 09:12:31 PM »
"You are attempting to recrystallize a compound but it won't dissolve in boiling hexanes and while it readily dissolves in boiling ethyl acetate, no crystals are formed upon cooling... (why?)... what is the problem and what would be your next choice of solvent to perform the recrystallization?"

Would you choose something more polar?

Dissolve it in boiling ethyl acetate and add hexane until the solution becomes slightly turbid then cool. Don't add too much hexane it might oil out. Stir all the time.
