Biphenyl-4-ol C NMR signals
« on: October 17, 2011, 11:38:30 AM »
Why are 3 of the carbons in biphenyl-4-ol (C numbered 6 in the websites below) have the same C NMR chemical shifts? I cant see any symmetry that makes them equivalent. Are they just coincidence equivalence?

Thank you so much.
Any references would be appreciated. :)

Something to consider: what was the field strength of the instrument used to acquire this spectrum?
Individual results may vary

It was 25.16 MHz in the spectrum but even 400MHz instrument gave the same result..
