Draw all possible structures for the reactant A..
« on: October 19, 2011, 09:01:27 PM »
(A) C6H12 ---(H2)/(Pd/C)---> 2-methylpentane

I hope you understand what i mean in this problem. All possible structures of this reactant (C6H12) after catalytic hydrogenation.

Im trying to figure out the answers, and I unfortunately only have one. Hex-1,en-ane.....im confused between placing the doubling bond on other carbons, or would this simply be the same structure? Also, would it be allowed to use a cyclohexane? Or for this reactions, there aren't any rings, only double bonds?

Thanks

1) What types of structures react with (H2)/(Pd/C)? What types of structures are the products of those reactions?

2) How many of the product-type structures are present in your product molecule? What starting-type structures could they come from?

3) How many of those possible starting-type structures could be present in your starting material?
