Lactic acid titration
« on: November 07, 2011, 12:44:34 PM »
I need to determine the conc of lactic acid in a chemical peel .I thought a Titration method would work now i find that these is also Glycolic acid in the peel .Is it possible to determine Lactic acid in a solution  that also contains Glycolic acid does any one have a simple method?

Titration will give only a sum, they have very similar dissociation constants - probably even too close for a titration in a nonaqueous solution.

Thnkas Borek i was afraid of that is there any other siply way to determine the lactic acid concentration without using say HPLC or GC why would a non aqueous solution fair any better in this situation?
Thanks  Nitram

I am not aware of any simple way (which doesn't mean it doesn't exist).
