Arsenic Removal - ion exchange
« on: November 22, 2011, 10:44:06 PM »
I have read some information on removing arsenic from drinking water using iron oxide in the form of rusty nails through an ion exchange process. I was wondering if someone could help explain how this works? Do the arsenic atoms replace the iron atoms since they both have a positive charge? Are the iron atoms just released into the water? Or is it something else entirely? (I'm a high school sophomore currently taking chem) Thanks!!
