Looking for excellent chemistry material
« on: November 28, 2011, 01:31:26 AM »
Okay, I realize I'm probably making a fool out of myself, but I don't really know anyone who could actually help me. So here's the gist. For the past few weeks, I've gotten really interested in the CONCEPT of chemistry. I took accelerated chemistry in High School, but never really went anywhere afterwards. Now, with a newfound interest in the subject, I want to learn more, or at least test my patience in it. The internet won't be able to give me much more than an abstract on the subject, and so, I'm leaning on purchasing some textbooks for it. I'm sure there are some credible chemistry books that are cheap because they're out of date (even a few years can make a difference). I don't personally know where to start, but if you guys, any of you, could give me some good recommendations to start with, then that would be awesome.

For the record, I only have knowledge in algebra, not calculus. So if any of you have a textbook in mind that utilizes calculus, please don't recommend it.

You can't do much physical chemistry without a working knowledge of calculus.

Thanks. Well, I can always learn Calculus in the future. I know we never used calculus in my accelerated chemistry class, so going over the basics for now should do.
