Bond lengths of N-O

Hi,

why are the lengths of the N-O bonds in Nitric acid almost the same? And why are they not exactly the same, like the ones in NO3- ?

Hope you can help me...

What is the bond order of the relevant bonds in NO3-? And in HNO3? How do these differ?

Yes, I understand that. So, NO3- doesn't have a H-atom and is therefor negative. Correct?
Is that the explanation for my question?

That is part of it. Also look at the bond order, as sjb suggested - remember that in general, double bonds are shorter than single bonds. And look at the possible resonance forms available for the two different structures - the actual structure will resemble a blend of the relevant resonance forms.
