Would there be reaction between an Ethanethiol and propene?
« on: December 06, 2011, 02:59:29 PM »
hey,

a question asked to specifiy if there was a reaction between Ethanethiol and propene and if there was, what would the mechanism be.

Ethanethiol has a pka of 10.6 so i thought there would be an deprotonation/addition.

The answer says that the ethanethiol is too weak a base though.

Would there really be no reaction?

Not "no reaction", but no deprotonation...

What other reactions do alkenes undergo?
