Could anyone tell me if this seems right so far . I'm doing a project with the question 'determination of caffeine in tonic wine by GLC' so so far i've wrote that i'll have to:
- use chloroform to extract the caffeine from the beverage using a seperating funnel, releasing the gas, running off the bottom phase and repeating a few times
- distil with a standard distillation column to remove most of the chloroform
- then evaporate under vacuum to remove the remainder of the chloroform
(maybe use sodium sulphate to remove any other water that may be present at the end?)
the result anyway is obviously caffeine in a fine white powder form but im a bit lost as to where to go from here
to analyse it using the GLC im not sure if i should be analyzing the tonic wine over a series of dilutions or not - this would seem like the obvious thing to do but when i spoke to my advisor he started talking about extracting caffeine from the wine hence why ive wrote out the above
so basically once i'm left with the extracted caffeine i'm lost as to where to go!
any help or comments would be appreciated!
