Gas Chromatography
« on: April 23, 2012, 12:59:23 PM »
This is coming from a chemical engineer so please bare with me.  :)

I have a Clarus GC 500 gas chromatography machine to myself.

I also have a high-pressure (up to 100 bar) 1L batch-reactor.

I would like to have liquid samples automatically taken from my reactor and automatically injected and run on the GC at 20 minute intervals. My GC -method is 10 minutes in length.

A valve needs turned to take a sample. Anyone have any ideas on how to easily do this?

Looks like I might need some sort of robot   ;)

The easiest way would be to talk to the GC manufacturer regarding autosampling from a production feed line, although you'll have to talk to the manufacturer of your production equipment to see what's possible.  Between the two, they should be able to rig up something that samples automatically by some sort of trigger.  You can also try to buy a third party robotic sampler to interface the two.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
