pH/Kinetics/rate of reduction

One of the HW questions in my upper div marine chem class that I cant figure out.
The rate of reduction of Hg2+ (aq) by V2+ (aq) in weakly acid solution increases as the acid concentration decreases.
Why do you think this is?
thanks so much.
