Dehydration of 1 hydroxymethylcyclopentane
« on: June 12, 2012, 07:34:59 PM »
I am trying to determine the alkenes formed from the dehydration (with H3PO4) of 1-hydroxymethylcyclopentane.  I think cyclohexene is formed, but I think other alkenes might be formed as well.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cyclohexene would be the ring-expanded product. What about the ring-stays-as-it-is products?
