As we want to measure the sulfate content in a heterogeneous material containing Pb, PbO, and PbSO4, we thought of selectively dissolving the PbSO4 with ammonium acetate. Then we could weigh the remains and know the content by difference.
However, we see very little dissolution after several days, although we used an excess (double of what is needed stoichiometrically).
Does anyone know what concentrations and dissolution times are needed? Or if any salts, acids, bases, may assist in this (without dissolving the other forms of lead)? Would heating help?
Thanks.
