Cis or Trans?
« on: July 03, 2012, 07:18:29 AM »
What stereoisomer of C2H2Cl2 is created when C2H2 reacts with Cl2? Cis have bigger boiling point, Trans are more stable (which I vote for). Is one isomer made in big excess or they are formed in almost equal amounts?

See perhaps http://www.mhhe.com/physsci/chemistry/carey/student/olc/ch09additionreactionsofalkynes.html or similar?

As I see, it is the trans isomer. Thanks for the link.
