Is heat necessary when producing CO from formic and sulfuric acid?

Most of the articles I've seen say that to produce CO from formic and sulfuric acid, one needs to heat the mixture. However, a few talk of the reaction without mentioning heat as a necessity. Will CO be formed from these ingredients in the absence of heat? If so, how quickly?

The sulfuric acid  will absorb the water and get heat up by itself.
