FTIR functional groups nomenclature
« on: September 10, 2012, 12:11:18 PM »
Hello all.
I am brand new working with FTIR technique and I have been checking a lot of paper to identify some functional groups for calcium phosphate components. I have noticed that the nomenclature used among papers to represent an specific functional group varies from journal to journal or even between authors. This is kind of confusing some times, specialy when you find things like: the band for P-OH is at this position, but the band for P-O-H is at this other position, another common designation is placing some of the elements in parenthesis like: P-O-H or P-O(H) or P-O H all of them with different meaning, I guess because the wavenumbers among them are not the same. Do anyone can help me with a guidance about what this symbols means, like where could I find basic information about the bonding nomenclature? My backgroud is mechanical engineering and not chemistry... I really appreciate any clue you can get me.
