Oxidation of Se with H2O2
« on: October 17, 2012, 01:48:18 AM »
Hello,

I would like to know what products are formed when you oxidize Se with H2O2

I know that seleneous acid is formed by the reaction:
Se + 2H2O2  ::equil:: SeO2 + 2H2O :rarrow: H2SeO3

Can SeO2 that is formed be oxided by H2O2 to form selenic acid?
SeO2 + H2O2  :rarrow: H2SeO4

What will determine if this reaction is going to occur and how do i prevent this from happening?

Thank you,
Bill

It works:

Think he wants to stop at Seleneous acid.

Maybe use a different route? Selenium dioxide + water?
