Acid Base Neutralization Reactions
« on: October 14, 2012, 04:28:56 PM »
I tried to write the reaction between sulfuric acid and ammonia (1:1 ratio) an I got NH4OH + H2SO4 --> NH4HSO4 + H2O. Is this the correct equation to begin with and if not, what did I do wrong and how can I fix it?

Will do. You can also write it starting with just NH3 and not listing water between products.

Just out of curiosity, (NH4)2SO4 is also possible, right?

(NH4)2SO4 could be an answer but this is the format Iv've been given. I have been struggling with acid base reactions for some time.

If it is 1:1 NH4HSO4 is the intended product.

Could you write it without water products so I can see how that would be done.

NH3 + H+ => NH4+

Use this for your example.
