1. Write balanced net equations for the following reaction:
A. The precipitation of the chloride of Hg2 2+ in Step 1
B. The formation of a yellow precipitate in Step 3
Step 1- To a known solution of equal volumes 0.1 M AgNO3, 0.2 M Pb(NO3)2 and 0.1 M Hg2(NO3)2, we added two drops 6M HCl and precipitate formed.
Step 2- 2mL of distilled water was added to the precipitate and placed into a beaker full of boiling water. This dissolved most of the PbCl2 but not the others. We decanted the liquid.
Step 3- Added one drop of 6M acetic acid and 3 drops 0.1 M K2CrO4 to the solution from step 2. Pb2+ was present bc a bright yellow precipitate of PbCrO4 formed.
I have no idea where to start, my lab manual doesn't show any examples. Can somebody show me an example?
