Extraction of amide and amine
« on: November 28, 2012, 11:37:50 AM »
How to separate 1-octanamide and 1-octanamine?
It is extraction. In the answer they added HCl so they got a salt of the 1-octanamine, while 1-octanamide doesn't react. Why it doesn't react (no acid hydrolysis)?

You will need to heat it to hydrolyse the amide.

Development Chemists do it on Scale, Research Chemists just do it!
