Purification of carbon disulfide

I need to purify Carbon disulphide from technical grade to high purity grade, so far we have done it by treatment over mercury metal to trap the free sulfides  and  distillation afterwards . Due to the toxicity of this process we need to change the procedure. Do you know any other industrial method to trap the free sulfide, that doesn't involve mercury metal?

What exactly is "free sulfide"? The ionic form? What's the counter-ion then. Just curious.  Pardon my ignorance.

Just a hunch: Tried Zn dust? Often used as a guard for ppm levels of S. Don't know if CS2 will adsorb though. Maybe Alumina or Zeolites?

How about lightly hydrogenating the sulfides off as H2S? I've also seen H2O2 treatments being used for similar problems. Key being trying to convert  dissolved sulfides into something volatile.

What happens if you distill without the Hg treatment? Is the sulfide-volatility similar to CS2?

PS. What scale are we talking about here? And what's the sulfide impurity content?
