Bio chem questions.
« on: February 25, 2013, 03:09:25 PM »
Not sure if this belongs here or not, but im having some problems finding answers for some questions.

Glucose molecules can form links with each other.
a) Give an example of two sugars and of two polysaccharides that can be formed in this way.
b) Describe the links between monomers in the sugars and in the polysaccharides.
c) In a mixture, could you separate the sugars from the polysaccharides? If yes, suggest how.

and

One carbohydrate is considered the most abundant on the planet.
a)   Which carbohydrate is it?
Cellulose found in plants (www.scienceclarified.com)

b)   What is its most important physical property?

c) Explain how aspects of its molecular nature contribute to this physical property.

If someone could point me the direction of where I could find some answers (or provide me with some answer  ), It would be a huge help.

According to Forum rules, you must show an attempt to answer your questions (cellulose is a start).  What textbook are you using for this class, and is this an organic class or a biochemistry class?  Let me ask you a question, that may begin to point you in the right direction:  When glucose is in its cyclic form (usually drawn with a Haworth projection), carbon-1 is part of what type of functional group?
