Home Chemistry for kids
« on: February 26, 2013, 04:37:16 PM »
Hey,

I have converted my sister to study chemistry at uni, and now it's time to start on my brother, he's only 6, and loves 'mad science' any cool/cheap things that you can recommend to do at home?

So far I've just done the candle and bowl of water trick (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyy_lup0F4c)

Any 'experiments' more chemistry related...? I was thinking about making some slime and putting iron filings in it - magnetoslime!

Thanks

I'm a third year studying for an MChem in pharmaceutical chemistry at Leicester, so the upper end of undergrad knowledge really.

I have not tried it yet but will in the future

Of course if you GOOGLE "chemistry for children" you get sites like

http://chemistry.about.com/od/chemistryforkids/Chemistry_for_Kids.htm
which leads to
http://chemistry.about.com/od/chemistryactivities/tp/Safe-Science-Experiments.htm

I like the paper making idea but the kids would probably like the mentos

When you do an experiment do you think you can impart some learning of concepts as well with a 6 year old?
