Active Extraction Lab
« on: April 06, 2013, 11:25:52 AM »
Hello Everyone!

We are about to do a chemically active extraction lab and I need help on a few of the pre-lab Questions..

1. How would you separate a mixture of a carboxylic acid RCOOH), an amine (RNH2), a phenol (ArOH) and a hydrocarbon (RH)? Draw a flow chart to illustrate your separation. Show each species in the aqueous and organic layers.

This is what I drew up in Photoshop:

2. Which pairs below could be separated by chemically active extraction? Which Reagent would you use in each case?

I was thinking a could not be separated. And b,c can be with an acid. But was not to sure.

Thanks!

Looks fine for me, and has been up since before you posted.  Check things at your end.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
