In the proton NMR spectroscopy for the following, why does the deuterium atom not give a signal?

Because it is a proton NMR you are using, deuterium is not NMR active at that frequency.

Like the others have said, it's because it's a proton NMR. It's only going to pick up proton/H signals.

The presence of coupling between deuterium and hydrogen can sometimes be observed in H-1 NMR. The values of J
HD
are smaller than the values of J
HH
. I would not expect to see any coupling in this case.
