oxidation state - permanganate
« on: February 11, 2006, 08:35:24 AM »
If KMnO4 in acidic conditions oxidises a metal (I) to metal (III) what would the oxidation state of Mn be?
I think it`s 2, but not sure how to explain it.

Permanganate gets reduced to MnO42-, MnO2 or Mn2+ - depending on pH (basic, neutral, acidic).
