How soap work as an emulsion?
« on: July 14, 2013, 01:01:15 AM »
THIS IS MY UNDERSTANDING OF SOAP

So I have eczema, and my dermatologist told me that I can't use soap or anything that foams on my skin.  I've been using soap-free cleansers, but they contain too many synthetic ingredients that irritate my skin. So, here is my question:

Soap is an excellent cleanser because of its ability to act as an emulsifying agent. So, if soap cleans because of being able act as an emulsifier, is it possible for me to just use a natural pure emulsifier such as soy lecithin cleanse my skin?

There is probably another reason why you can't put soap or other things on your eczema.  You might want to ask your dermatologist the specific questions you've posted, and hope they have the knowledge to epand what you know, and correct what you have wrong.

Briefly, I don't think food emulsifiers work as dirt and grease re-leasers.  I know we call them all emulsifiers, and they technically do the same thing, but they will depend slightly on chain length and other chemical properties of dirt and oil that aren't the same.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
