Help with acido-basic properties of a compound
« on: September 15, 2013, 10:29:09 PM »
Hi all!

I have a test coming up tomorrow and a lot of questions are similar to this one.

Explain the acido-basic properties of this compound. Draw its ionised structure at pH=7,4 and explicitly explain which parts of the compund are acidic or basic?

Here is what i think:

The nitrogen in the Piridine ring is basic? True or false?

The O=S=O group with the nitrogen next to it is neautral? It would be acidic if the nitrogen had a hydrogen bound to it, so it could dissolve and that would make it acidic? True or false?

The amide groups i don't know what is? Is it even basic or acidic?

The Phenol OH group is acidic?

I am so lost here, if anyone could help me out? Or point me at some material that explains how this stuff works, i would greatly appreciate it.

PS: Sorry for any spelling mistakes, i am not a native English speaker.
