I numbered the steps. At the end the carbene picks up a proton, but I doubt that this is correct.

 My notes from lecture about reduction of haloalkanes with Zn in acidic solution tells me that there is organozinc intermediate like R-Zn-X which reacts with acid HY to get RH + Zn2+X-Y- Im not sure if it helps you tho ???

I dont think it has anything more specific than : "reduction of halogenalkanes by zinc" I cant find anything more specific, but mu guts tells me that the decompozition of R-Zn-X could be similar to decomposition of grignard reagent in water or protic enviroment
