Chemistry/Calculator Issue
« on: October 14, 2013, 06:39:06 AM »
Hey, I was wondering if someone could help me out with an issue I'm having. I haven't done Chemistry in awhile and I forget how to use a TI-84 every time I need to use it again.

We're working on Chemical Kinetics and Reaction Rates in my class and one of the problems is asking for us to find the half life for a reaction in a previous problem. On the answer sheet it reads as

t1/2=0.693/9.2x10^(-3/5)=75.3s

My issue is, and I know this may seem really stupid for some, but I completely forget how to put the 9.2x10^(-3/5) into the calculator. I have been trying to use ee and other ways but I can't remember how to do this. If someone could help me out with this is would really *delete me* Thank you so much!

Did you see the button 1o^x

type 9.02 * 1o^x * (-3,5)

Thank you, that actually really helped. I also just noticed that my professors hand writing was actually an s and not a 5 so it wasnt 10^(-3/5) but I still forgot how to do the 10^3 but now I see.

I was wondering, for a reaction rate problem w a first order reaction, where would I find the slope? Or is that the K in ln[A]t=-kt + ln[A]0

Thank you again!
