Metallic Bonding Structure

Hey!
My class is doing a unit on bonding, and we have an assignment for which I need to make a 3D model which contains metallic bonding. I was wondering if the nuclei of bonded metals (e.g. Cu) simply line themselves in a grid (e.g.

) or if there is some other pattern.

In all solids nuclei "simply line themselves in a grid". It is what happens to the orbitals and electrons that is important when it comes to the bonding type.
