Calculating content % ??
« on: December 06, 2013, 01:27:25 PM »
If I determined the % potency using titration how do I calculate % content. Can anyone help me with the math?

In what context? What is the lab, or actual question?

I have 100kg 20% magnesium and citric acid mixture which I used titration method to determine % potency to be 110.21% now it is asking me for magnesium content in percentage and somehow can not do the correct math.

Mixture contains 20% magnesium and you are asked about magnesium % content. What am I missing and why is the answer not 20%?

And what do you mean by "potency"?

Sorry my goal was to make a 100kg of 20% mixture of magnesium and citric acid. After weighing everything and mixing my total yield was 100.46 kg. I took a sample and tested it using a titration method after calculating this it said I had 110.21% Mg in my mixture so my final product is a little more than 20% magnesium. Would I just take 20/110.21 to determine that the % content is actually 20.18%.

Sorry, it makes absolutely no sense to me.

Sorry my goal was to make a 100kg of 20% mixture of magnesium and citric acid.

20% of what? Of magnesium? Of citric acid? Of each separately? Of magnesium citrate? No idea.

it said I had 110.21% Mg in my mixture

And what is 100%? If you say 110% Mg it makes sense only if it is clear to what it is related.

20% of magnesium in the mixture is my goal. My results in testing for mag. was 100.21%
So do I just divide 20/100.21 to get actual 20.18% content
