Can The D be cleaved in place of H ?? is this what happened in this reaction?? i think it is an E2 and the double bond must have been between the C of Br and C of the CH3, why did that happen ?

I think its because in E2 reaction, the leaving groups must be in antiperiplanar conformation, which is either Br+D or Br+CH3
