ok so this may be a odd question to ask but i have no idea where to start i need to calculate
if a gas was temperature X at Pressure Y then the pressure was changed to Z what would the new temperature be?
and how much energy (in Jules) is the gas holding in thermal energy ?

Is the process adiabatic?
As a first approximation you can start with

yes its adiabatic and thanks you put me in the right direction
....which has led me to another question is there a table for the constants of all the gases ?
K=P/V

If you are given initial parameters you can use
[tex]\frac {P_1} {T_1} = \frac {P_2} {T_2}[/tex]
If not, you will need to know volume, number of moles of gas and the ideal gas constant.
