Right after my oral exam in Instrumental Inorganic Analysis, I discussed possible master theses with the Professor I wanted as my supervisor (who were the one asking questions during the exam) and the external sensor. I had previously by mail tried to explain what I was interested in, and the following matched that pretty well:

They (the institute at which the Professor works) need to develop one or more internal standards for analysing blood and urine samples on their ICP-MS (high resolution magnetic sector field, Finnigan ELEMENT 2) that best correct for drift. Apparently their analyses of blood and urine samples are not constant over time; there is some degree of systematical drift. They need internal standards that correct (as good as possible) for this. This work includes lab work and appropriate statistical analysis.

I have only been at one meeting, so I do not have a lot of details about the thesis. However, I am really looking forward to starting. I will be planning ahead and looking for articles, until the fall 2014 when I start!
