List all possible energies six particles two level system?
« on: January 19, 2014, 07:59:57 PM »
I'm a little confused as to how to do this. I know it has to do with pascals triangle, though.

The pascal triangle will tell you how many sates are available. If you write out rows 0-6, the number of terms in the row will equal the number of states. Also, each term will tell you the number of microstates (W) that will give that certain macrostate (I believe).

Heres a pascal triangle to look at: http://ptri1.tripod.com/

For 6 particles in a TLS, there will be a ground state (E1=0) and a state corresponding with the addition of one particle in the E2 level (seven in all, I believe). So, if E2 = 1J, there be a state 0J, 1J, 2J...all the way up to all sic particles being in E2 at 6J.

Hope this is helpful.
